Sláinte Tryout Assessment

Sláinte 2020-2021 Girls Season

Update from the region...Instead of tryouts being held in November, NCVA has moved up the date for players selection to begin on Saturday, August 29, 2020.

Sláinte is currently fielding teams for power and premier league for the 2020-2021 season.  Due to COVID, tryouts will look different this season than from the previous season.  The current San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) guidelines prohibit the traditional 1 day tryout.  The guideline requires that we establish a 3 week, stable pod in groups of 12; in a larger space, we are allowed to have a group as large as 20.  Our Tryout Assessment for team selection will take place thru our Fall Pods for all those that are interested in joining Slainte for the 2020-2021 Season.  In accordance with COVID guidelines, each camp will require a 3-week commitment with groups of 12 student-athletes per court.

Sláinte is committed to ensuring the right fit for players that would like to participate in the 2020-2021 season.  We anticipate that most of our rosters will be filled by the end of the Tryout Assessment in late August and September.

Registration for the Tryout Assessment Pods will be available soon.

About our Sláinte Teams

The Girls Power League season begins with tryouts at the end of August and runs thru May.  Teams who are traveling to Nationals will end their season at the beginning of July.  Generally, teams practice 2 to 3 times per week.

Teams will participate in 12 to 20 tournament dates depending on the team. Tournaments include NCVA Power League, California Kickoff and National Qualifier Tournament(s) where teams compete to earn bids to the Girls Junior National Championships.

We categorize our Power teams into two types:

Sláinte Competitive/Travel Power Teams are recommended for players who have multiple years of experience, are fully committed to practices and tournaments, and are highly competitive.  Playing time is not shared equally but based on performance at practices and tournaments.  This evaluation is at the discretion of the coaching staff.

This is used to keep teams competitive and to achieve team goals. Coaches will provide a fair and impartial environment for each player to earn playing time. Playing time will not be discussed as it relates to another teammate. Players for this division will have the option to develop their player profiles by our coaching staff so that they can reach out to university recruits.

These competitive power teams will participate in NCVA Power League, National Qualifiers, and will practice 2-3 times a week.

Sláinte Power League Teams are recommended for players who have had previous club experience and are fully committed to practices and tournaments.  These teams are a balance between learning and succeeding… Players will be allowed to participate in every tournament, however, playing time is not equally distributed.  Coaches will balance players’ strength and weaknesses.

These teams will participate in NCVA Power League power, 1 National Qualifier, and will practice 2-3 times a week.

The Girls Premier League Program begins with tryouts in late August; practices and tournaments run from December to early May. Teams practice twice per week and participate in the NCVA Premier League. The Premier League teams are ideal for players interested in playing competitive volleyball with a less extensive time and travel commitment.

All premier teams will play in the NCVA Premier League and may opt to do additional tournaments.

Developmental Tournament Team (DTT)

Sláinte Developmental Tournament Teams are formed during the winter season.  Developmental Tournament Teams are ideal for beginning players who want to develop their skills and experience tournament competition.  These teams practice from January thru the end of April and participate in 2-3 local tournaments.

Rising Youth Program (RYP)

Sláinte runs a beginners/intermediate skills program for boys and girls called Rising Youth. Our Rising Youth Program is ideal for players who want to develop their skills and experience competition but who are not ready for the commitment of playing on a Premier or Power team.

Our Rising Youth program offers options in:

  • Fall RYP: from September to late November
  • Winter RYP:  from January to the end of April
  • Summer RYP: from June to end of July
