Coronavirus Announcements

POSTING updated 3/21/20 @ 12:50 PM

Dear Slainte Families,

Our hearts go out to all members of our Slainte community during these unsettling times. We hope you are safe and healthy, and we know that you miss volleyball and each other!  The Slainte staff feels the same. We miss you!

A planning team of Slainte directors and coaches has been preparing some at-home workouts and resources that we would like to share.

  • Volleyball, Fitness and Wellness Resource list:  This resource list contains links to free videos and other online resources including solo volleyball skill drills, fitness workouts, yoga, dance, wellness, meditation and other great resources.  Check it out.

  • Live Slainte club-wide workout sessions:  Coaches will lead live optional workouts via Zoom meetings on the following days:

    • Tuesdays at 7pm
    • Thursdays at 7pm
    • Sundays at 3pm

Please check your email or team messaging for meeting access details.

  • Win prizes!  Sign in to the live meetings, workout with other Slainte players and your name will be automatically entered into a drawing for Slainte gear and other prizes!

  • Team bonding activities:  We encourage coaches and players to create your own team workouts, hangouts, movie nights, etc.  If you want to organize something for your own team and you need contact info, Slainte administrators/coaches will help you connect.

Parents, thank you for your patience as we continue to lay out plans for various scenarios moving forward. Some possibilities include extending the VB season into May/June, crediting families for future clinics and camps, giving partial refunds, or a combination of these. It’s still too early to determine exactly how we’ll proceed.  In the meantime, we encourage everyone to:

  • Join us for a Zoom test run tomorrow, Sunday, March 22 at 3pm. Please check your email or team messaging for meeting access details.
  • Continue to practice health precautions to keep you and your loved ones safe.
  • Get some fresh air and exercise.
  • Be a good friend/teammate and reach out to someone to check in on them.
  • Reach out to a trusted adult if you are feeling anxious, overwhelmed or stressed.
  • Learn or do something new.
  • Keep a positive attitude and look for “silver linings.”

Thank you, Slainte family!  We hope to see you soon on a Slainte zoom meeting!

Slainte!  Which means, “To Your Health!”

Margi, Nga and Ryan, Slainte Directors

No Tournaments this Weekend - March 14 and 15

Dear Slainte Families,

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve in San Francisco and other San Francisco Bay Area counties, and as it is now considered a pandemic, we have come to a decision regarding this weekend’s tournaments. We will withdraw all Slainte teams from the NCVA tournaments this weekend.

While we have no known cases of coronavirus in our Slainte community, we feel this is the prudent decision to prevent the spread of the virus and to do what we can to keep our Slainte families and the greater community safe.

We will continue to follow CDC and SFDPH recommendations as we make decisions moving forward.  We encourage you to reach out to us if you have any questions.

We ask that you continue to check the Slainte homepage for updated communications moving forward.  Please continue to follow health safety precautions and take care of yourselves and your loved ones.

Margi and Nga, Slainte Co-Directors

POSTING AS OF 3/10/20 @ 12:17 PM

Dear Slainte Families,

While we have no cases of COVID-19 in our Slainte community, some of our practice venues have closed and we have taken the precautionary measure to cancel all practices until further notice.  We’ve reached out to the NCVA to inquire about the status of this weekend’s tournaments on March 14 and 15. We have been referred to the NCVA’s dedicated webpage to get updates and we are hoping for an updated communication to be posted this week.

As Nga and I continue to monitor the situation, we encourage all Slainte families to:

  1. Make the decision that is best for your family and communicate that decision to your coaches (please copy Nga and Margi). We support each family’s decision to make choices that make sense for them.
  2. Pack and bring your own food, snacks and drinks to tournaments moving forward.
  3. Continue to take all the necessary precautions to keep yourself healthy and safe from the virus.
  4. Check the Slainte homepage for updated communications.

Thank you and go Slainte!

Dear Slainte Families,

We have learned today that several more schools in San Francisco, San Mateo County and the SF Bay Area have closed or have altered their after school activities in an effort to combat the spread of COVID-19. These closures and activity cancellations include some of our practice venues (Mercy and ICA) and we anticipate that access to most or all of our practice venues will eventually be suspended as a precautionary measure in the coming days.

Until further notice, SLAINTE PRACTICES are CANCELLED.  We ask that you check for updates on the Slainte website as the situation evolves.  Your coaches will be in contact with you regarding upcoming tournaments.

Please continue to follow the protocols recommended by the SF Department of Public Health and other health organizations to keep yourselves safe and healthy.
